Terms of Use
Last updated: April 2026
By using LocumRates.com or purchasing any digital product from this site, you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, don't use the site.
Who we are
LocumRates.com is an independently operated website that publishes physician locum tenens rate benchmarks. The site is owned and operated by a private individual based in Minnesota. We are not a staffing agency, recruiter, employer, licensed financial advisor, compensation consultant, or any other type of regulated professional service.
What the data is
LocumRates publishes aggregate rate benchmarks for locum tenens physicians across specialties and states. These are starting points for your own research and negotiations — not guarantees, personalized recommendations, or professional advice of any kind. Your actual rate will depend on your experience, specialty sub-focus, the specific facility, geographic demand, and the individual terms of your engagement.
Data sources and methodology
Primary source: Bureau of Labor Statistics Occupational Employment and Wage Statistics (BLS OEWS), 2024 release. BLS data is U.S. government public domain and represents salaried physician compensation estimates, which are converted to hourly equivalents. Locum tenens contract rates typically carry a premium above salaried rates; the degree of that premium varies by specialty, setting, and market conditions.
Percentile benchmarks are derived from a statistical model built on BLS OEWS data, supplemented by independent manual review of publicly posted job listings and compensation discussions in public online forums. This is not automated scraping — it is independent editorial review used to calibrate and spot-check model outputs. The model introduces uncertainty that BLS alone does not capture, and no benchmark should be treated as a precise figure.
BLS OEWS data is survey-based, typically lagged 12–18 months from collection to release, and may suppress estimates in states with small sample sizes. We do not warrant that any rate shown reflects current market conditions, any specific employer's offer, or any individual's negotiating position.
Not professional advice
Nothing on this site — and nothing in any purchased PDF — constitutes financial advice, investment advice, legal advice, or professional compensation consulting. The owner is not a licensed financial advisor, registered investment advisor, valuation expert, or compensation consultant. Aggregate wage benchmarks are not personalized advice. Verify rates independently, talk to colleagues in your specialty, and consult a contract attorney familiar with physician agreements before accepting or declining any offer.
